S. Manisana Devi

Assistant Professor, Fashion Design & Head, Starting School

S. Manisana Devi is an accomplished fashion educator, academic leader, and industry professional with over two decades of experience spanning fashion education, curriculum development, academic administration, event management, and design consultancy. She is currently serving as an Assistant Professor in Fashion Design and heads the Starting School, a pioneering initiative of the School of Design, Media and Creative Arts (SODMCA), JAIN (Deemed-to-be University). The Starting School is a future-focused developmental programme for students of Classes 9 to 12, designed to equip them with etiquette, professionalism, confidence, communication skills, cultural intelligence, leadership abilities, and life readiness through immersive and experiential learning.

A passionate advocate for India’s rich handicraft and handloom heritage, she has integrated traditional crafts such as Khadi, Chanderi, and Bagh into fashion education and student-led projects. Her PhD research is also focused on Indian crafts and their relevance in contemporary fashion and design.

Beyond academics, Manisana is deeply committed to student mentoring, counselling, and holistic development. A former national-level badminton player and fitness enthusiast, she strongly advocates for wellness, discipline, and a balanced lifestyle as essential components of success.
